Each year we have always closed out our regular weekend camping with some time spent at Algonac State Park in Michigan. It's a unique park with sites essentially right on the river with just a road separating the campsite from the river where the big ships are constantly moving up and down stream. They really are truly magnificent huge things and at night you can even hear the engines throbbing as they pass.
Canada is only a 1/2 mile across the river and all along the St Claire River are the Ferris that will take you across from one side to another. As you can see from the size of the ferry it can be quite exciting in a larger motorhome. Sitting in the drivers seat while the ferry rocks and rolls gives you a really strange feeling.
Algonac State Park is really quite nice and includes a former railroad line that has been turned into a Bike and Hiking Trail that goes into the town of Algonac. The town has a beautiful waterfront with wooden walkway along the river.
While we were there good friends Art and Janie stopped and showed us their new "toy" .... a brand new Pontiac Solstice. They plan on taking along on their travels in a tow trailer. We all looked it over and made all the proper noises...it really is a neat "toy".
This won't be our last trip this year as we now have the time to do what we want.... although "time" to do anything or plan anything seems to go awfully quick these days.
